FiVE Pillars of Referring RATS Referee Community

Referees need to embrace these FiVE Pillars of Referring within our community - players, coaches and spectators care deeply about these - do your part to meet their expectations each match:

1- KEEP THEM SAFE - call appropriate fouls for the skill sets of the players
2- BE NICE & FRIENDLY - even if the coaches, players or spectators are not
3- KEEP PACE WITH THEM - even if there is not much to do everyone will notice when we are lazy
4- BE ON TIME - start on time and get them as close to their full time as you can - most matches we cannot add time
5- MISCONDUCT - caution players when needed send off when deserved And write your report it takes 3 minutes

Questions - let us know ...

New Self Assigning Criteria

PROFILE - please update your profile to include a Profile Photo, Direct Deposit and other data. Without this info your self assigning ability is limited. If your bank is not listed please let Larry know and we will get it added.

SELF ASSIGNING - you will notice that we have added some features at the request of the league to the self-assigning guidelines:

- The women's matches have been given priority to female referees
- Some Coed and all of the Men's D1 matches are manual assignment and by request only at the teams/league request
- Grade 6 and higher referees have been given access to the matches first then Grade 7+, then Grade 7 followed by Grade 8 referees ... so be patient

Remember that the teams are your client - feedback that they provide back to us directly impacts your ability to continue working with them and other teams. So remember the FiVE Pillars of RATS Referees - our core values - as you work with your clients:

1- KEEP THEM SAFE - call appropriate fouls for the skill sets of the players that night.
2- BE NICE & FRIENDLY - even if the players are not.
3- KEEP PACE WITH THEM - even if there is not much to do. Players notice when we are lazy.
4- BE ON TIME - start on time and get them as close to their 90 minutes of fun as you can.
5- MISCONDUCTS - Caution players as needed Send Off when deserved. And write your report it takes 3 minutes.

Field Issues - No Shows, Lights, Double Booked

Field Issues - if there are issues at the field (double booked, lights, etc ...) follow this procedure:

1- If one or both teams do not show at the field contact RATS Administrators (Romes/Larry) immediately. Team(s) sometimes are at the wrong field - give the league a chance to track the missing team(s) down before leaving the field.
2- If field is double booked there is a link on the Seattle RATS website that has all the field permits listed. Have one of the captains look up the permit and show it to the other user - http://seattlerats.org/contact/field-in-use-or-double-booked/ If there is still a conflict contact one of the RATS Administrators (Romes/Larry).
3- If lights are an issue have one of the captains look up on the RATS website contact numbers for that field. Additionally you should contact one of the RATS Administrators immediately (Romes/Larry). Especially with lighting issues - we have a direct line to Seattle Parks and lighting contacts - the lights can typically be turned on within minutes of notification. If there are conflicts at the field - as the referee you need to pull both captains/managers together to discuss issue and then contact RATS Administration if needed.

As the referee you need to remain onsite until RATS Administration has released you or both teams confirm that the match is suspended. Teams have contracted with you as the referee to be onsite for 100 minutes - please respect that agreement. Questions - let us know:
Larry Metz - 206.498.8044
