UPDATE to Coronavirus Policy 3.6.20 |
 | UPDATE to Coronavirus Policy as of 3.6.20 -- With the recent cases of the COVID-19 Coronavirus virus in Washington state, we wish to communicate to all Match Officials, Clubs, Teams, Players, Coaches and Families about best practices to protect everyone at soccer events.
At this time some Match Officials are opting not to referee scheduled assignments and some teams are opting not to play this weekend March 6/7/8. Both parties are being released from their obligation without penalty since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Washington State is an active situation that is quickly evolving. We will continue to monitor the situation and update if there are any changes to your match schedule.
All of us are aware of the Covid-19 local impact. It is possible that game schedules may be impacted including last minute cancellations and such. We will do our best to communicate with you early if fields are closed or matches are cancelled.
If you as a referee are showing symptoms or work at a facility that closes due to this virus, we ask that you turn back your assignment and stay home even if this is on match day. We would encourage those of you working matches to have personal hand sanitizer with you used before and after match play. The traditional post match handshakes between players and referees can be suspended and a simple verbal appreciation exchanged. Match Officials and Players/Teams may be hesitant about participating which may result in late cancellations and disruption to our scheduling. Neither the Match Officials or Teams will be penalized for opting out of the match - however, please communicated that with your Match Assignor or Administrator.
NOVEL CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) UPDATE: The Washington State Department of Public Health is the lead agency for the State’s response to COVID-19. They are working closely with Public Health – Seattle & King County on coordinating and communicating about any response in King County. Please visit their websites for the latest information. The outbreak of COVID-19 in Washington State is an active situation that is quickly evolving. We are monitoring the situation and following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the State Department of Health, and Public Health – Seattle & King County. Public Health officials are not recommending facility closures or the cancellation of large activities at this time. If this recommendation changes and we need to act we will notify you of any updates to schedules. Check emails, the website, and Facebook for field closure updates. In the event of individual field cancellation we will notify the referee for the affected teams directly by text and email.
In addition to the CDC & Washington Department of Health recommendations, please see the recommendations below in order for us all to protect ourselves and those around us.
- Match Officials, Players, Coach, Parents feeling ill should not attend soccer matches
- No handshakes, high fives, fist pumps, chest bumps, huddles, group celebrations, etc.
- No pre or post game handshakes between players, coaches & officials - however, teams and match officials should continue to show good sportsmanship
- Water bottles should NOT be shared
- If you bring food or drinks to games please ensure that you discard any items yourself
- All Match Officials, Players, Coaches and Parents are advised to carry and use hand sanitizer
- To help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses please follow these important tips:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol content.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- All adults and children should stay home when sick. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
-Individuals with chronic health issues and/or individuals experiencing severe symptoms should be evaluated by a medical professional |
